Job summary

Wind River is seeking a Linux Development Engineer to contribute to the Debian-based Linux distribution within the eLxr team. You will develop system components, create Debian packages, automate delivery pipelines, and collaborate with open-source communities for reliable Linux platform capabilities.

You will work with cross-functional teams across industries, applying Python, Go, Bash, C, and C++, and building GitLab CI or GitHub Actions pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployments.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Linux systems development or distribution engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with Debian-based platforms.
  • Contributions to open-source software projects welcomed.
  • Proficiency in Python, Go, Bash, C, or C++.
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
  • Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals, tooling, and debugging.

Job description

Role Summary

Wind River is seeking a Linux Development Engineer to join the eLxr team and contribute to the development and evolution of our Debian-based Linux distribution. In this hands-on engineering role, you will develop system components, create Debian packages, automate delivery pipelines, and collaborate with open-source communities. You will work with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable Linux platform capabilities for mission-critical intelligent systems across multiple industries.

Your Role
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance system components for the eLxr Debian-based Linux distribution.
  • Create, update, and maintain Debian packages throughout the distribution lifecycle.
  • Contribute patches, bug fixes, and feature enhancements to relevant open-source projects and communities.
  • Develop high-quality, maintainable software using Python, Go, Bash, C, and C++.
  • Build and maintain GitLab CI or GitHub Actions pipelines to automate builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Linux user-space and low-level system components.
  • Document development processes, design decisions, and technical implementations.
  • Partner with cross-functional engineering teams to support platform integration and feature delivery.
Your Background
  • 2+ years of experience in Linux systems development, distribution engineering, or a related software engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux distributions, preferably Debian or another Debian-based platform.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining open-source software projects.
  • Programming experience with Python, Go, Bash, C, or C++.
  • Experience developing or maintaining CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
  • Strong understanding of Linux fundamentals, command-line tools, system internals, and debugging.
  • Must reside in the Austin, Texas area and be able to work onsite.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status, Green Card, is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS or another cloud computing environment.
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Linux kernel internals, device drivers, or low-level debugging.
  • Experience contributing to large-scale open-source initiatives.
