Overview
As a member of the military, Line Technicians provide fast, reliable wired communications infrastructure and support to wireless systems utilizing leading-edge cable distribution systems. They are part of a larger team that provides the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) with communications and information services throughout Canada and around the world.

Work environment
Line Technicians work primarily outdoors, often at heights and in confined spaces, across Canada and internationally. Safety standards are paramount.
Joining the Regular Force involves posting to a base after training, with possible relocations. The Primary Reserve offers part-time work with flexible postings, typically one night per week and some weekends, with opportunities for full-time employment and deployment.
Entry requirements
No prior experience is required. The minimum education is Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec, including Grade 10 Applied Math or Math 416. Foreign education may be accepted.
Training
Initial training includes Basic Military Qualification at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, and specialized training at the Canadian Forces School of Communication and Electronics in Kingston, Ontario, lasting approximately 20 weeks. Additional courses and on-the-job training are available for developing specialized skills.
Part-time options
Reserve positions are available across Canada, serving part-time at local units, with pay, benefits, and pension contributions comparable to full-time roles.
