Job summary

Inline Group Inc. in Edmonton seeks a Line Locator to support long-term regional projects, staying close to home each night. You will perform high-precision locating, assist with surveys and as-builts, and produce detailed field reports to guide CAD deliverables.

Ideal candidates have practical line-locating experience, the ability to read utility plans, and a valid driver’s license with a clean abstract. Certifications such as UALL are valued.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in line locating within complex underground utility environments.
  • Ability to interpret utility plans and exposure to CAD, GIS mapping or archived drawings.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract; UALL certification in progress or obtained.
  • Transmission Advanced Line Locating certification is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; team-oriented.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Safety first, always – Take an active role in Inline’s HSE program and all client safety requirements. Promote a strong safety culture by following Alberta One-Call protocols, using proper colour coding, marking, and field practices, and leading by example on every site.
  • High-precision locating work – Perform standard line locating sweeps to accurately identify active utilities and underground infrastructure, ensuring all lines are properly marked prior to excavation activities.
  • Basic survey support, locates & as-builts – Assist with basic survey tasks in the field, including taking measurements, supporting layout verification, and completing accurate as-built updates to reflect true field conditions and utility placements.
  • Field verification & reporting – Complete detailed field reports, sketches, and photo documentation to support CAD and project deliverables. Ensure accurate communication of underground conditions to support safe and efficient field operations.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Experienced Utility Locator – You have hands-on experience in line locating within complex underground utility environments, ideally including active construction or industrial sites.
  • Technically skilled – You can interpret utility plans and have exposure to CAD, GIS mapping, or archived underground drawings.
  • Qualified & ready – You hold a valid driver’s license with a clean abstract, have (or are working toward) Utility Advanced Line Locating (UALL) certification. Transmission Advanced Line Locating certification is considered an asset.
  • Communication & Teamwork – Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to take instruction and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Attention to Detail – Organized, precise, and able to complete tasks accurately under tight timelines.
  • Physical Readiness – Able to lift up to 50 lbs and enjoy working outdoors in varying conditions.
