Qualifications

Our knowledgeable and dedicated AB Geomatics team is searching for a Line Locating Technician, in Grand Prairie, AB. We are looking for someone with a technical background, love of exploring, working outside, and a voracious appetite for line locating!
What you will do:
  • Manage and perform field line locating work with the support of a Locator Assistant.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and line locating methodology.
  • Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences (Managers, Land Surveyors and Drafting personnel)
  • Provide guidance, training and mentorship to Locator Assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry, the best practices, efficient field processes and procedures and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Actively participate in and proactively support the advancement of the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Complete office technical survey tasks, field surveying as required and other duties as assigned.
What you will bring:
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Locating Technician in an oilfield setting.
  • Strong working knowledge of utility locating theories, fundamentals and ground disturbance practices.
  • Willingness and ability to support surveying tasks as a Survey Assistant when required, and capable of demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Experienced in an oilfieldsetting completing locates and scans.
  • Familiarity with Trimble RTK or Handheld GPS would be considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver projects on time and on budget in a field environment.
  • Effective communication skills - verbal and written; accurate and legible field notes and sketches.
  • Knowledge and experience of pipeline, lease and facility construction would be considered an asset.
  • Snowmobile, ATV and UTV experience would be considered an asset.
  • The ability to develop and motivate line locating staff and work well in a team environment.
  • A valid driver’s license and can provide a clean driver’s abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.
Job Condition:
  • Out-of-town work (possible shift work) and frequent travel required.
  • Ability to carry, lift and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
