Overview

Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area.

With a staff of 500 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are home-bound and frail. We are currently seeking casual Home Helpers to join our Home Care team.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-home services to clients as per their requests for assistance. Duties include but are not limited to: cleaning, organizing, defrosting refrigerator, cleaning stove, sink, countertops, toilet and bathtub, cleaning windows at reachable height, washing, drying and putting away dishes.
• Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors. Dusting and wiping furniture.
• Making beds and changing bedsheets.
• Laundry and ironing (soaking soiled garments, machine-wash and dry, putting clean laundry away and perform minor mending).
• Meal and snack preparation as needed.
• Assisting in preparing grocery list, doing grocery shopping, and putting them away.
• Garbage disposal and recycling, green bin where applicable.

Requirements

• Experience in housekeeping duties and preparing meals.
• Possess a valid Food Handler’s certificate.
• Speak fluent English and a second language that reflects the community (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin) is an asset.
• Possess caring attitude, good interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated good judgement, with the ability to work independently and cooperatively with the Home Care team.
• Flexible working hours with availability to work shift hours, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
• Must be able to travel from home-to-home on a daily basis to service clients in the York Region, Scarborough, and Downtown Toronto areas.
• Ability to speak a language that reflects the community served is an asset.
• A valid vulnerable sector police record check completed within one year.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is an asset.

Wage

$19 per hour
