Job Summary

Peel Multicultural Council (PMC) is a non-profit and charitable organization that promotes a harmonious multicultural society and its key service pillars consist of Settlement and Integration of newcomers to Canada, Neighborhood Development, Health and Wellness, Education & Training, and Employment Support.

PMC is seeking supply LINC Instructors to teach daytime and/or evening, weekend classes to newcomer learners. Class instruction format may include Online, In-person, or Hybrid.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

• Teach a daily class in compliance with Canadian Language Benchmarks, Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA), National Language Placement and Progression Guidelines (NLPPG).
• Provide professional, appropriate and motivational short and long-term lesson plans consistent with accepted teaching methods and the needs and level of the class.
• Design and create real-world lesson plans that are outcome-based and have identifiable measurement targets.
• Maintain clear and accurate records of students’ achievements and outcomes.
• Incorporate a variety of learning materials into lesson plans to cater to different learning styles.
• Orient students to portfolios as a learning and assessment tool (PBLA).
• Develop and maintain an inclusive classroom atmosphere where participants feel welcome and interested in learning.
• Combine classroom teaching with computer instruction; apply ESL educational software and online conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Classroom).
• Ensure ongoing attendance and active participation of learners each day.
• Collaborate with other staff to ensure LINC participants have access to the full suite of services available at PMC.
• Complete administrative duties such as client registration and orientation, attendance records, monthly reports, and statistical information as required.
• Employ tact and discretion when handling learner complaints.
• Participate in professional development sessions and actively utilize information to enhance teaching.
• Ensure the confidentiality of all client and agency files and documentation (electronic and hard copy) in accordance with all required policies.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• TESL Certificate from a recognized institution and ongoing membership with TESL Ontario (OCELT designation).
• Post-secondary degree in related discipline from an accredited institution.
• Previous successful experience (minimum 1 year) teaching ESL at various levels.
• Demonstrated experience working with adults of diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Computer skills with knowledge of LINC/ESL educational software, video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Classroom), MS Word, Internet.
• Positive approach to a multi-level teaching environment.
• Good knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks and ability to benchmark students’ progress.
• Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills.
• Punctual, reliable, and disciplined.
