Job summary

Salary Grade: Hiring Range, Limited Term Faculty Member - Academic Associate - Networking and IT Security - ($83,000 - $98,000). Final base salary will reflect individual candidate’s experience and qualifications.

The Faculty of Business & Information Technology at Ontario Tech University invites applications from qualified individuals for a one-year, limited-term Academic Associate position teaching courses in the undergraduate Bachelor of IT, Networking & IT Security and graduate Master of IT Security (MITS) programs. The successful candidate may be expected to teach courses such as Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Cryptography & Network Security, and Trust Systems.

Applicants shall possess a graduate degree, preferably a PhD or terminal degree, in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Network Security, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related field. Preference will be given to candidates with specialist qualifications in the areas of networking and IT security, computer architecture, operating systems, cryptography, network security, trust systems, secure systems design, cybersecurity, and applied information security. Relevant industry experience, university-level teaching experience in hybrid or online delivery, and professional certification such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate/Professional (CCNA/CCNP), Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or related cybersecurity/networking certifications would be considered assets.

Ontario Tech is a technology-enhanced learning environment, and the candidate should have demonstrable skills in the integration of technology and AI into teaching and be able to model those skills in their own teaching and pedagogy. Duties will include preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials and workshops, preparing and marking assignments, tests and examinations, responding to student inquiries, maintaining regular office hours, invigilating tests and examinations along with providing service to the university such as through committees. Duties may include the supervision of teaching assistant(s) or mentorship of students in case competitions. The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 70% teaching and 20% service and 10% other workload for the year.

The Faculty is unique in Canada integrating Business and Information Technology strategically within the one faculty and offers honours undergraduate degrees in Commerce (Co-Op) with majors in OBHR, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, and Technology Management. Additionally, we offer a Bachelor in Information Technology, with majors in Networking and Security, Game Development and Interactive Media, and Technology Management. At the graduate level, we offer a Master of Business Analytics and AI (MBAI), Master of Financial Data Analytics (MFDA), Master of IT Security degree with an Artificial Intelligence focus (MITS). MSc and PhD programs in Computer Science are offered jointly by the Faculties of Business and IT, and Science. The Faculty also now offers a new PhD in Cybersecurity. This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the collective agreement.
