Job summary

Tendercare Living Centre at 1020 McNicoll Avenue, Scarborough, Ontario is seeking a Part-time Light Duty Cleaner to support a warm, resident‑focused environment.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, you will perform daily room and common area cleaning, restock supplies, and assist maintenance staff as needed. The role requires Grade 12, English literacy, and a willingness to learn, with shifts 8 AM–4 PM on a rotating schedule.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent education.
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset).
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening to be provided.
  • Experience with an older adult population an asset.
  • Strong customer and resident service skills.
  • Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset.
  • Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans all assigned rooms and common areas on a daily basis.
  • Empty small garbage containers, replace bags, and clean containers as necessary.
  • Cleans sink, faucet, mirrors and toilets.
  • Replaces or fills toilet paper, paper towel and soap in dispensers.
  • Cleans walls, doorframes and doors, chairs, televisions, dressers and window ledges.
  • Dust and damp mop floors, move furniture as needed.
  • Assist Heavy Duty Cleaner and maintenance staff with moving furniture.
  • Adheres to infection prevention and control and safety policies.

Job description

Light Duty Cleaner – Tendercare Living Centre (1020 McNicoll Ave) Part‑time - Light duty cleaning. (30 Hours) Availability: Every other Thursday, Tuesday and Weekend. (8 AM-4 PM).

As a member of our housekeeping and maintenance team, you will provide a clean and safe environment for residents and staff.

Reporting to the Environmental Services Supervisor, you will perform various cleaning duties within your assigned rooms and common areas.

Responsibilities
  • Cleans all assigned rooms and common areas on a daily basis.
  • Empty small garbage containers, replace bag inserts, and clean containers as necessary
  • Cleans sink, faucet, mirrors and toilets.
  • Replaces or fill toilet paper, paper towel and soap in dispenser
  • Cleans walls, doorframes and doors, chairs, televisions, dressers and window ledges
  • Damp wipe with disinfectant head and foot boards, bedside tables, over bed tables, telephones, light switches and doorknobs.
  • Dust mop and damp mop floors, pulling out easily movable furniture.
  • High dusting with damp cloth or handled duster, picture frames, bathroom light fixtures, over bed lights, tops of door frames, cabinet shelves etc.
  • Low dusting with damp cloth, handled duster or dry mop baseboards, chairs, radiators, etc.
  • Clean outside of all furniture, chairs, dressers, bedside table, garbage containers, bed legs, etc.
  • Move TVs, bar fridges and other items to clean surfaces below them.
  • Assist Heavy Duty Cleaner and maintenance staff with the removal of all room furniture.
  • Remove privacy curtain hooks and take to laundry room for cleaning Carbolize beds, clean disinfect bed frames, deck, legs and rail.
  • Spray wash flip and turn the mattress.
  • Disinfect the floor under the bed, bedside and spot mop spills
  • Disposes of garbage bags to a large garbage bin.
  • Adheres to established company policies and procedures regarding infection prevention and control, quality assurance, fire, and safety etc.
  • Participates in staff meetings as assigned, attends in service education programs and completes all mandatory education as assigned.
  • Collaborates with other departments in such tasks as transferring residents, moving, ordering and storing supplies, etc.
  • Other duties deemed necessary by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent education
  • Ability to read, write, and follow instructions in English (other languages an asset)
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening to be provided.
  • Experience with an older adult population an asset Strong customer and resident service skills.
  • Experience in a high paced customer service setting an asset Flexible and willingness to learn new tasks Ability to multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills Effective human relation skills and demonstrated commitment to working with seniors Effective communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively are essential.
  • Comfortable handing considerable heavy lifting, reaching, squatting, kneeling, crouching and moving equipment, climbing ladders and exposure to biochemical agents and wet floors.
  • Ability to speak Cantonese or Mandarin is an asset
