Job summary

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking permanent part-time and casual Lifeguard/Instructor Level 1 and 2 positions with Aquatic Services, based at Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach. The Lifeguard/Instructor contributes to the effective operation of the District 69 Recreation Department through the provision of aquatic program services and the operation of the Ravensong Aquatic Centre.

This position supports the Recreation Department by assisting team members in their duties, as

Qualifications

• High school graduation with 1–3 years aquatic experience or an equivalent training.
• National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option) and Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification.
• CPR (Basic Rescuer or CPR C & AED) and First Aid certification; equivalency accepted.
• And one of the following Instructor credentials: Lifesaving Instructor, Aquafit, NL Service Instructor, Learn to Swim Instructor, or First Aid Instructor.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills; basic office skills (keyboard, word processing, computer apps).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to effective operation of Ravensong Aquatic Centre and aquatic program services.
• Assist Recreation Department by supporting team duties to meet service expectations and goals.

Job description

The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking permanent part-time and casual Lifeguard/Instructor Level 1 and 2 positions with Aquatic Services, based at Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach.

The Lifeguard/Instructor contributes to the effective operation of the District 69 Recreation Department through the provision of aquatic program services and the operation of the Ravensong Aquatic Centre. This position supports the Recreation Department by assisting team members in their duties, as required, to meet service expectations, departmental goals and objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include high school graduation, with one (1) to three (3) years of pool/aquatic related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Applicants must possess and maintain the following certifications:

• National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option)
• Lifesaving Society (Swim for Life) Instructor Certification
• CPR Certification - Basic Rescuer or CPR "C" & AED
• Recognized First Aid Certification/WorkSafeBC Equivalency.
• And any one of the following: Lifesaving Instructor, Aquafit Certification (BCRPA Aquafit, CALA Aquafit Instructor), National Lifeguard Service Instructor, Lifesaving Learn to Swim Instructor, or First Aid Instructor.

Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. General knowledge of office skills including keyboarding, word processing and knowledge of computer applications are also required. (Please see specific job qualifications on rdn.bc.ca/employment)
