Job summary

City of Terrace is seeking a responsible Aquatic Centre Supervisor to oversee daily operations and safety. You will guide public use, support aquatic programs, and teach Red Cross swimming lessons and Lifesaving Society courses.

The role may include instructing Aqua Fit, answering inquiries, and performing routine maintenance. Shift work may be required, and you will maintain essential records and operate computer systems as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Lifeguard and instructor certifications required for pool operations and safety.
  • First Aid with CPR-C or equivalent
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification required
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification required
  • Pool Operator's Level 1 is an asset
  • Fitness Instructor is an asset
  • 1000 hours or more aquatic experience with pool operation knowledge
  • Ability to work independently and maintain harmonious working relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communication with the public and staff

Responsibilities

  • Supervise public use of the Aquatic Centre and related facilities.
  • Assist with daily aquatic program operations and ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Instruct Red Cross swimming lessons and Lifesaving Society courses.
  • Instruct Aqua Fit classes when needed.
  • Respond to public inquiries, questions and complaints.
  • Perform facility maintenance and basic equipment checks.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain records and reports; operate POS and ActiveNet when required.
  • Shift work may be required; perform other related duties as needed.

Job description

DEFINITION:

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, supervises and controls the activities of the Aquatic Centre.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:
  • 1. Supervise public use of the Aquatic Centre and related facilities;
  • 2. Assists with the smooth operation of aquatic programs on a daily basis;
  • 3. Instruct Red Cross swimming lessons;
  • 4. Instruct Lifesaving Society Leadership Courses;
  • 5. Instruct Aqua Fit classes when needed;
  • 6. Answer and act on public enquiries, questions and complaints;
  • 7. Perform facility maintenance such as cleaning and minor repairs to equipment;
  • 8. Ensure that all regulations regarding public health and safety are enforced according to applicable standards;
  • 9. Prepare and maintain records and reports as necessary;
  • 10. Operate point of sales cash system and ActiveNet computer programme, as required;
  • 11. Shift work may be required;
  • 12. Other related duties, as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • 1. 18 years of age or older;
  • 2. National Lifeguard Service Award (Pool Option);
  • 3. Standard First Aid with CPR-c or equivalent First Aid course;
  • 4. Red Cross Water Safety Instructor;
  • 5. Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification;
  • 6. B.C. Recreation and Parks Association Pool Operator's course Level 1 an asset;
  • 7. B.C. Recreation and Parks Association Fitness Instructor an asset;
  • 8. 1000 hours or more aquatic experience with basic knowledge of pool operation, water testing and equipment checks;
  • 9. Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other departmental staff, general public and other Leisure Services personnel;
  • 10. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the public and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
