My client is one of the world's largest Reinsurance Companies and is seeking a dynamic Life Underwriting Consultant to join their team. This individual will be responsible for providing facultative underwriting to clients on large cases and other cases as assigned, within time service standards. The role includes larger case approval levels along with resting and treadmill EKG approval authority.
Job Responsibilities
- Apply sophisticated underwriting procedures to assess complex and/or large medical and financial risks for facultative clients, recognizing instances where deviations from guidelines are applicable.
- Interact with clients to secure specialized or supplementary information; develop alternative solutions when routine methods do not work and provide excellent customer service through understanding, patience, and innovation.
- Communicate with all levels of client’s underwriters and other company management personnel, explaining the reasoning and theory surrounding underwriting impairments, problems, and decisions.
- Stay current with medical topics, economic and business environment changes, and evolving financial evaluation concepts and measures.
- Work effectively and professionally within a team with minimal supervision.
- Understand and implement all retrocession schedules accurately.
- Participate in client liaison activities, including external client audits, visits, relationship management, and RFPs as a subject matter expert.
- Provide mentoring internally and externally, including training and case referral or co-signing, aiming to develop team members’ and clients’ underwriting capabilities for large cases.
- Perform other duties as required, including special projects.
- Engage actively in the insurance industry, such as publishing white papers or delivering presentations at conferences.
Qualifications
- 3 to 5+ years of current, active life underwriting experience.
- Minimum $3,000,000 case approval authority for the past three years across all ages and ratings.
- Bilingual in English and French.
- Currently managing a regular new business caseload.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven success working with field force, sales representatives, and client underwriters.
- Progress towards ALU education is a plus but not required.
- Ability to work effectively with all organizational levels.
- Adaptability to change and commitment to team and company goals, including working additional hours as needed.
- Proficiency in Word, Office products, and underwriting systems.
