Accountability Objective

Under the direction of the general manager, assesses the recreational needs of each resident. Plans and directs the implementation and regular evaluation of recreation programs for the residence, in accordance with management standards, policies, and within budgetary guidelines.

Background/Qualifications
  • Successful completion of a diploma in recreation/leisure studies from a recognized community college or university, with courses in gerontology.
  • Knowledge of programs and techniques in recreation, community resources, and program development.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Smart Serve Certification.
  • 3-5 years of experience in recreation programming and/or volunteer management for seniors.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in and contribute to the Verve Quality Improvement (VQI) program.
  • Assess residents' interests and activity needs during initial orientation.
  • Monitor changes in residents' condition and behavior to modify programs accordingly.
  • Notify resident care staff of any observed changes or concerns.
  • Maintain records of assessments and programs, updating regularly.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate activity programs addressing physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and spiritual needs.
  • Communicate activities to residents, staff, families, and the community to encourage participation.
  • Maintain a positive residence image through ongoing communication with the community and media.
  • Participate in hiring, training, and supervising staff.
  • Conduct staff performance reviews as per policies.
  • Manage volunteer and student programs, including recruitment and evaluation.
  • Develop departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with policies regarding programming quality, resident treatment, infection control, and safety.
  • Participate in various meetings and committees.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Participate in continuing education and act as a resource for staff.
  • Participate in weekend duty manager rotation, if applicable.
  • Distribute monthly calendars, surveys, and invitations timely.
  • Attend regional recreation manager meetings.
  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and mandatory training.
  • Recognize health and safety hazards, report incidents, and participate in drills.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the general manager.
