Job Title: License Vocational Nurse
Reports To: Center Manager
Summary:
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) is clinically responsible for all patients in a department. He/she/they delegate(s) tasks to ancillary back-office staff based on scope of practice, and coordinates care with the provider(s).

Major Responsibilities:
- Prioritizes patient safety and patient satisfaction; maintains awareness of dignity, comfort, and safety needs of patient
- Provides excellent patient care; practices strong nursing autonomy in patient care while coordinating care with an ED MD
- Triages patients, obtaining vital signs, a thorough history, and a nursing assessment
- Explains procedures and treatments to patients to gain cooperation and understanding, reducing apprehension
- Administers prescribed medications and treatments according to approved nursing techniques
- Delegates within scope-of-practice to other clinical staff; manages patient flow within the center by effective communication
- Prepares equipment and aids providers during treatment and examination
- Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions; notifies provider of changes, reactions, and incidents
- Responds to life-saving situations following nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols; comfortable running "codes"
- Provides direct patient care interventions per scope of practice and provider orders
- Initiates a thorough patient education plan tailored to individual needs, including family instruction
- Maintains, checks, and utilizes laboratory and testing equipment
- Follows up with patients to ensure good outcomes and assists with further treatment as needed
- Adheres to infection control practices, including proper handwashing and PPE use
- Maintains a clean and orderly environment
- Participates in quality improvement activities
- Monitors inventory and supplies, mindful of costs and resource stewardship
Requirements:
- Current and unrestricted LVN license
- At least 1 year of clinical experience
- IV/Phlebotomy certification
- Competence with IV administration, phlebotomy, lab processing, injections, ear lavage, and EKGs
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Availability for weekend coverage, 3-4 Saturdays or Sundays per month
Working Conditions:
Center-based clinical setting with moderate noise level. Potential exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods, perform manual tasks, and lift up to 50 lbs.
