Job summary

Manitoulin Transport is seeking a skilled Heavy Duty / Truck and Trailer Mechanic to maintain and repair our fleet. You will perform diagnostics and repairs, ensuring safety and compliance with OH&S standards.

The role involves night shifts (6PM–6AM) on a Pitman schedule, with a $5,000 sign-on bonus for licensed technicians. Journeyman status or Apprenticeship will be considered, with CVIP and CDL assets noted as favorable.

Qualifications

• Journeyperson Heavy Duty / Truck and Trailer Mechanic preferred.
• Apprentices will also be considered.
• Valid CVIP Inspector License is a strong asset.
• Class 1 CDL is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Brakes & wheel ends: inspect and replace brakes, drums, hubs, seals and bearings.
• Electrical & emissions: diagnose and repair lighting and electrical systems; emissions components.
• Suspension & chassis: inspect/repair springs, axles, air ride and related components.
• Structural & fabrication: repair/replace bumpers, braces and dolly legs using welding.
• Bodywork & maintenance: minor repairs to doors, trim, flooring and rails.
• Shop safety & teamwork: maintain clean workspace and assist with tasks.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Duty / Truck and Trailer Mechanic to perform regular maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on our fleet equipment. In this role, you will work safely in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety standards, complete work orders accurately, and ensure our fleet remains safe and operational.

Key Responsibilities

• Brakes & Wheel Ends: Remove, inspect, and replace brakes, drums, hubs, seals, bearings, and races.
• Electrical & Emissions: Troubleshoot and repair lighting systems, electrical components, and emissions systems.
• Suspension & Chassis: Inspect, repair, or replace chassis components (springs, hangers, equalizers, complete slider assemblies, axles, sub-frames, air ride components, and air systems).
• Structural & Fabrication: Repair or replace bumpers, braces, mud flap brackets, and dolly legs using cutting torches (oxy-acetylene) and welding techniques.
• Bodywork & Maintenance: Perform minor repairs on doors, door trim, flooring, rub rails, roof sections, nose panels, and upper/lower rails.
• Shop Safety & Teamwork: Maintain a clean, organized personal workspace during and at the end of every shift, and assist with additional operational tasks as needed.

Schedule & Benefits

• Shift: Night Shift – Pitman Schedule (2x2x3).
• Hours: 6PM - 6AM
• $5,000 Sign-On Bonus for Licensed Technicians (Journeyman status).

Qualifications

• Certification: Journeyperson Heavy Duty / Truck and Trailer Mechanic preferred (Apprentices will also be considered).
• Licensing & Assets:
• Valid CVIP (Commercial Vehicle Inspection Program) Inspector License is a strong asset.

Class 1 Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is considered an asset.
