Job description

Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity in our program for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within the Alberta Kidney Care – North program. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the LPN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Decisions are made in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. The LPN provides patient and family-centered care to acute and chronic renal failure patient populations. The LPN will practice within the guidelines and philosophy of the AKC. You will be encouraged and expected to work at your full scope of practice and provide a variety of nursing duties in accordance with current policies and nursing care standards. This position is based at the Grande Prairie Unit. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place up to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional healthcare team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS policies and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Requirements:
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Courses in Physical Assessment, IV Therapy, and Medication Administration.
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs (18 kg).
  • Proof of successful completion of the CLPNA Administering Blood or Blood Products module if graduated prior to June 2022.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Completion/pass of Hemodialysis Training, which is an intensive 4-week full-time schedule plus 2 weeks of buddy shifts. Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum 1-2 years recent Adult Acute Care experience.
  • Recent acute and chronic hemodialysis and/or nephrology nursing experience.
