The Licensed Practical Nurse is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

Responsibilities

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, your typical day will include:

  1. Providing nursing care in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, the resident plan of care, and within the scope of practice of an LPN.
  2. Ensuring the supply, control, and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensuring protocols are followed on all assigned shifts.
  3. Creating a comfortable and safe environment that provides opportunities for privacy, dignity, autonomy, independence, and individuality.
  4. Optimizing each resident’s potential to achieve or maintain maximum functional ability.
  5. Seeking direction from the RN when resident needs exceed experience or scope of practice.
  6. Exercising sound nursing judgment by reporting any change in resident’s status in a timely manner to the Registered Nurse and taking appropriate action.
  7. Fostering an atmosphere conducive to optimal care through collaboration with other team members and monitoring resident care.
  8. Liaising with medical team members and nurse specialists to support effective clinical care for all residents.
  9. Continually assessing own nursing practice and learning needs.
  10. Participating in and attending in-service programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
  11. Documenting priorities, target dates, and strategies or interventions on the individualized care plan.
  12. Working with residents, family members, and the interprofessional team to collect data for the nursing history and provide ongoing assessment.
  13. Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements

Must haves:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing.
  • Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses BC.
  • Successful annual completion of RAI MDS certification as per Ministry of Health requirements for AIS.
  • Current First Aid with CPR.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario applicants).
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check (British Columbia applicants).
