The Licensed Practical Nurse is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents and ignites the warmth of human connection.

Responsibilities

1. Providing nursing care in accordance with established policy, physician’s orders, and the resident plan of care, while utilizing sound nursing practice principles.
2. Ensuring the supply, control, and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and following protocols on all assigned shifts.
3. Creating a comfortable and safe environment that provides opportunities for privacy, dignity, autonomy, independence, and individuality.
4. Optimizing each resident’s potential to achieve or maintain maximum functional ability.
5. Seeking direction from the RN when resident needs exceed experience or scope of practice.
6. Exercising sound nursing judgment by reporting any change in resident’s status in a timely manner to the Registered Nurse.
7. Fostering an atmosphere conducive to optimal care through collaboration with other team members and communication with residents and family members.
8. Liaising with medical team members and nurse specialists to support effective clinical care for residents.
9. Continually assessing personal nursing practice and learning needs.
10. Participating in in-service programs, conferences, seminars, and workshops.
11. Documenting priorities, target dates, and strategies or interventions on the individualized care plan.
12. Working with residents, family members, and the interprofessional team to collect data for nursing history and provide ongoing assessment.
13. Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

1. Diploma in Practical Nursing.
2. Current registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses BC.
3. Successful annual completion of RAI MDS certification as per Ministry of Health requirements for AIS.
4. Current First Aid with CPR certification.
5. Successful completion of the prescribed Vulnerable Sector Check (Ontario applicants).
6. Successful completion of the prescribed Criminal Records Check (British Columbia applicants).

Wage Leveling rate of pay: $32.84 - $41.35 per hour until wage leveling ends, then the pay rate will reflect the collective agreement pay rates starting rate.
