The Opportunity

Reporting to the Manager of Inpatient and Ambulatory Medical Care, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is part of an interprofessional team delivering care within the Pediatric Consultation Clinic. The LPN practices independently and collaboratively with RNs, physicians, and other healthcare providers, performing assessments, treatments, and education for patients with medical conditions.

Responsibilities include :

  • Providing holistic, family-centered care to children and their families.
  • Monitoring and assisting with patient flow during clinics.
  • Assessing patient and family needs during visits; communicating pertinent information to team members.
  • Providing telephone-facilitated care and documenting according to policies.
  • Collaborating with care team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Consulting with other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Participating in quality initiatives, policy development, and educational material creation.
  • Serving as a clinical resource on pediatric medical conditions.
  • Participating in team meetings, committees, and quality improvement activities.
  • Assisting in orientation for new staff and learners.

Hours of Work

Your Qualifications

  • Graduate from an approved Practical Nurse Diploma Program; 2-year diploma preferred.
  • Active license with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required.
  • Completion of pharmacology and health assessment courses required.
  • Knowledge of the LPN scope of practice in ambulatory settings preferred.
  • CPR Level-C Healthcare Provider certification within the last 12 months required.
  • Recent clinical experience with medication administration and health assessments required.
  • Experience in pediatric and/or ambulatory care preferred.
  • Understanding and commitment to family-centered care required.
  • Assessment and child/family teaching skills required.
  • Ability to work in an interprofessional team and accept direction.
  • Critical thinking, clinical judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills required.
  • Professional behavior, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Initiative, time management, and organizational skills required.
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, Outlook, Meditech, and internet searches preferred.
  • Additional language skills are an asset.
