Job summary

Alberta Health Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to participate in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care on the PCU 32 unit at Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will work with RNs and HCAs to provide safe, high quality, patient- and family-centered care.

The LPN collaborates in a multidisciplinary team, adheres to standards, and supports quality improvement initiatives while remaining flexible to shifts and patient needs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.
  • Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA).
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Responsibilities

  • Direct and monitor the care provided by health care aides under RN direction.

Job description

Licensed PracticalNurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family care on an acute surgical unit in accordance with RAH and AHS policy and procedures. Staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital serves a unique inner-city population and we want to do it well. The Surgery Inpatient program maintains the expectation that all employees do so with pride, compassion, and respect. PCU 32 is a 23-bed unit providing care to orthopedic and fractured hip patients. Patients are received from the operating room, emergency department, intensive care units, and directly from home and/or medical clinics. We have modified nursing care on all shifts with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and health care aides working cohesively within the collaborative model of care. LPNs work independently and under the direction of a Charge RN. Successful candidates will be expected to participate in quality improvement initiatives at the front line; supporting and maintaining high quality patient care strategies within the surgery program. LPNs are expected to direct and monitorthe care provided by health care aids.

Additional Required Qualifications:

This job is physically demanding, the incumbent will be required to assist with lifting, turning, and mobilizing patients as well as other physical tasks. Demonstrated excellent organizational, interpersonal, communication and priority setting skills required. Demonstrated reliability required. Able to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Basic computer skills are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with assessment for signs of delirium and nursing interventions an asset. Experience with performing CAM assessment and CC behavioral charting/documentation an asset. Two years previous orthopedic and surgical experience preferred. IV, PCA, Epidural, Drains and Wound Care experience preferred. Experience with monitoring of Central Lines preferred.
