Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) New Graduate Opportunities
PHSA's New Grad Program offers new LPN graduates the chance to apply their nursing skills acquired through education and training in specialized fields such as pediatrics, oncology, or adult mental health nursing.
All new employees who are recent graduates hired as LPNs will be placed in either a regular or temporary position, with a minimum of 0.7 FTE (part-time) to full-time hours for the first six months.
Nursing shifts include days, evenings, and nights, typically 8 or 12 hours, varying by unit or department.
Wage: $32.82 - $44.96 per hour
This posting covers all "New Grad" opportunities across all locations and facilities within the Provincial Health Services Authority. Opportunities are available in the following areas:
- Adult Mental Health Programs: Correctional Health Services in Coquitlam, Surrey, Chilliwack, Prince George, Oliver, Kamloops, Victoria, and Nanaimo; Heartwood Centre for Women, Vancouver
- BC Cancer: Regional Cancer Centres in Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, Surrey, Vancouver, and Victoria
- BC Children's Hospital: Acute Rehabilitation Unit, Sunny Hill Health Centre, Vancouver
What you'll do:
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients/clients and families.
- Assess and identify patients’ and families' strengths and limitations using physiological, psychological, social-cultural, and spiritual needs assessments, including nursing histories and head-to-toe assessments.
- Review and interpret nursing care plans, provide nursing care, assist with hygiene, grooming, toileting, mobility, feeding, and perform procedures like dressing changes and medication administration according to policies.
- Follow diagnostic treatment plans, including specimen collection and preparation for tests or procedures.
- Monitor patient status, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and report significant changes to the healthcare team.
- Maintain accurate records in both electronic and paper formats, including documentation of results, consults, and data entry.
- Transport or accompany patients for tests or procedures as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- Graduation from a recognized Practical Nursing program or equivalent, with current licensure from the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Awareness of and commitment to learning about the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and related reports.
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives.
