Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) New Graduate Opportunities
PHSA’s New Grad Program provides new LPN graduates with the opportunity to utilize their nursing skills acquired through education and training by entering into a nursing specialty in pediatrics, oncology, or adult mental health nursing.
All new employees who are recent graduates and hired as licensed practical nurses (LPN) will be placed in either a regular or temporary position, with a minimum part-time (FTE) to full-time hours for the first six months of employment.
Nursing shifts include days, evenings, and nights, typically lasting 8 or 12 hours, with variations depending on the unit or department.
This posting covers all “New Grad” opportunities across all locations and facilities within the Provincial Health Services Authority. Opportunities for New Grad LPNs are available in the following areas/locations:
Adult Mental Health Programs:
- Locations include: Coquitlam, Surrey, Chilliwack, Prince George, Oliver, Kamloops, Victoria, and Nanaimo
- Regional Cancer Centres: Abbotsford, Kelowna, Prince George, Surrey, Vancouver, and Victoria
BC Children’s Hospital
What you’ll do:
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients/clients and their families.
- Assess and identify the potential strengths and limitations of patients/clients and their families, considering physiological, psychological, social-cultural, and spiritual needs, through activities such as completing nursing histories and performing head-to-toe assessments.
- Review and interpret nursing care plans, provide nursing care, and assist patients/clients with hygiene, grooming, toileting, ambulation, mobility, and feeding. Perform procedures like dressing changes and medication administration according to established policies and procedures.
- Follow diagnostic and treatment plans, including collecting specimens and preparing patients for tests, examinations, or procedures.
- Monitor patient status, evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions, and report any unanticipated changes or concerns to the nurse-in-charge or healthcare team members.
- Maintain accurate records both electronically and on paper, including tracking results and inputting data in accordance with policies.
- Transport or accompany patients requiring assistance to other departments for tests or procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
What you bring:
- Graduation from a recognized Practical Nursing program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- Awareness and commitment to understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and related reports.
- A commitment to creating meaningful reconciliation in Canada, aligned with TRC and BC's Indigenous Rights Acts.
- Knowledge of the social, economic, political, and historical factors affecting Indigenous communities, and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism initiatives (e.g., BC DRIPA, TRC reports).
