Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Enhanced IEN Orientation

Join to apply for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Enhanced IEN Orientation role at Health Association Nova Scotia.

Location: Bedford, NS, Canada

Overview: The long-term care sector is partnering to hire and provide an Enhanced LPN Orientation for internationally educated nurses (IENs). This initiative helps IENs transition into LPN roles within the sector.

An LPN is one of three professional nurse designations in Nova Scotia, alongside RNs and NPs. Opportunities abound in the long-term care sector.

Successful applicants will attend a comprehensive, in-person refresher program focusing on essential knowledge and clinical skills needed for safe, competent care in long-term care settings. Upon successful completion, participants commit to a two-year return of service as an LPN, ensuring workforce stability and professional growth.

Responsibilities
  • Perform resident checks and rounds (vitals, breathing, safety, charting, etc.)
  • Administer medications, process doctor’s orders
  • Provide resident personal care (feeding, dressing, wound care, etc.)
  • Support residents, families, and staff
  • Handle general duties like paperwork, supplies, and administrative tasks
  • Lead and support Continuing Care Assistants and other staff
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Core Requirements
  • Be an internationally educated nurse
  • Hold a valid Nova Scotia College of Nursing license (conditional or full RN license with ability to obtain LPN license)
  • Have recent RN experience (within last five years)
  • Possess current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Clear criminal and vulnerable sector check (within past three months)
  • Experience working with the elderly in long-term care
  • Reside in Nova Scotia
