In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides care to complex but stable residents/clients. Responsibilities include performing assessments, planning and providing personal care, and executing nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to competency guidelines, agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders as primary diagnoses.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
