Job summary

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse I for Valley Vista Seniors Home/Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale. The position is temporary full-time for approximately 3 months, with shift work including days, nights and weekends, totaling 75 hours per pay period.

The successful candidate will provide nursing care under the direction of a Registered Nurse, uphold person- and family-centered care, and participate in safety and team-based quality improvement

Qualifications

• Graduation from a practical nursing program approved by NLHS.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work under direction of a Registered Nurse within an interdisciplinary care team.
• Commitment to person- and family-centered care and safety.
• Willingness to complete NLHS Admissions Module for LPNs.
• Willingness to complete NLHS PICC Module for LPNs.
• Demonstrated proficiency in wound care management and medication administration.

Definition of Work:
Work involves providing nursing care and treatment services for the physically ill, disabled and/or cognitively impaired clients under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The successful candidate must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care, demonstrate a commitment to safety and partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks and implementing improvements.

Required qualifications:

• Graduation from a practical nursing program approved by NLHS
• Current BLS certification.
• Current registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador.
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated competency in working to the full scope of practice (as per the CLPNNL and NLHS policies and procedures) and standards of care relevant to designated client population.
• Completion of other skills and post basic competencies as required.
• Work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team and support the Registered Nurse in caring for clients with unpredictable outcomes as required.
• Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse for patients where the acuity or complexity of care requires an advanced level of knowledge and skill beyond the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses.
• Completion of NLHS Admissions Module for LPNs, or willingness to complete prior to commencement of the position.
• Completion of NLHS Peripherally Inserted Catheters (PICC) Module for LPNs, or willingness to complete prior to commencement of the position.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Wound Care Management and Medication Administration including IM, IV and subcutaneous injections.
• Consistent demonstration of NLHS corporate values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE).
• A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
• A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in licensed practical nursing.
