Job summary

Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies and unit protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, And Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education and breastfeeding course or (b) recent (within 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
  • MHSU roles require additional education as specified by BCCNM for managing Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
  • Hip and Knee Clinic roles require two years of recent related surgical and preadmission clinic experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills And Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to implement a care plan.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at the full scope of practice, including medication administration.
  • Operate relevant equipment.
  • Physically capable of performing job duties.
