Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience for Hip and Knee Clinic positions.

Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice defined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, along with agency policies, standards, and specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal roles.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
  • Hip and Knee Clinic positions require two years of recent, related surgical and preadmission clinic experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, the multidisciplinary team, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement care plans.
  • Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Operate related equipment.
  • Physically perform the duties of the position.
