Job summary

A regional health authority in Duncan, BC is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join their multidisciplinary team. The LPN will perform assessments, provide personal care, and operate within their full scope of practice. Ideal candidates will have registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives and relevant experience in perinatal or mental health settings. Qualifications

  • Registered as a practicing LPN with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Completion of education for perinatal positions or one year of experience.
  • Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program within the last 2 years.

Job description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvements are inherent in this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans, provides personal care, and carries out nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, following agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education and breastfeeding course, or (b) at least 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practicing with primary diagnoses of Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
  • Hip and Knee Clinic roles require two years of recent, related surgical and preadmission clinic experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement care plans.
  • Work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Operate related medical equipment.
  • Physically perform the duties of the position.
