In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Additionally, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is required.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving primary diagnosis of Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Deal effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement a care plan.
  • Demonstrate competency to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration.
  • Operate related equipment.
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
