Qualifications

Job description

Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope - (213367)

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvement are inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, as well as agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training, and Experience

Registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN is required.

  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus a breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal roles.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving primary diagnoses of Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement care plans efficiently.
  • Demonstrate competencies to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Operate related medical equipment.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
