Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans, provides personal care, and performs nursing procedures. The LPN operates within the full scope of practice according to the Standards of Practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, agency policies, standards, and unit protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education and breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as outlined by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organize work and implement a care plan.
  • Work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Operate related equipment.
  • Physically perform the duties of the position.
