The commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the full scope of practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to competency guidelines, standards of practice, agency policies, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience
  • Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
  • Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus a breastfeeding course, or (b) at least 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal roles.
  • MHSU positions require additional education as specified by BCCNM, particularly for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills and ability to implement a care plan.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform the duties of the position.
