Job description

The Licensed Practical Nurse implements the residential care plans for each client/resident and performs all general nursing duties to enhance their physical, mental, and social well-being within the LPN scope of practice.

EDUCATION / PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE :

  • Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma with practicing membership in the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of BC
  • Current OFA1 certification
  • Six (6) months of palliative care experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered by the employer
  • Industry-recognized Food Handlers and Sanitation Course
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention course (preferred)

ABILITIES / SKILLS :

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful and changing environments
  • Empathy and ability to work with individuals who have experienced abuse, poverty, grief, loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, addictions, HIV/AIDS, or other life-limiting conditions
  • Physical capability to perform duties involving walking, bending, lifting residents, utilizing safe body mechanics
  • Understanding of various stages of the dying process and applying supportive principles for individuals, families, and oneself
  • Ability to handle residents with mental health issues and substance dependencies
