Job summary

Kiknu, Eskasoni, Nova Scotia's first long-term care home on a First Nation community, seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Kiknu team. Based in Eskasoni, you will support resident care, administer medications, and collaborate with medical staff to honor Mi’kmaw culture and individual choices.

Shannex operates Kiknu with the Eskasoni First Nation, offering education opportunities, benefits and a pension plan, with on-site parking and flexible hours to support quality elder care.

Qualifications

  • Registration with provincial Practical Nursing regulatory body.
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certification.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector.
  • Experience caring for elders in long-term care is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assess resident needs through planning, implementing, evaluating and documenting.
  • Provide leadership to health services staff while maintaining individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with management to ensure policy compliance.
  • Administer and record prescribed medications per policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Assist with supervision and evaluation of care staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we will ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values and traditions.

We are searching for a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Kiknu team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, documenting and directing resident needs through consultation with medical professionals, care conferences and internal staff
  • Providing leadership to health services staff and overseeing provision of quality health services respecting the client’s right to individualized planning of health services
  • Working with the existing management and health services teams to promote communication and compliance to policies and procedures
  • Administers and records prescribed medication as per company policy and scope of practice
  • Maintains the standards of accurate and complete documentation and reporting
  • Applies dressings and treatments according to physician’s orders and policyAssists with supervision and evaluation of job performance and behavior of other health care staff
  • Additional related duties as assigned
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Registration with the provincial Practical Nursing regulatory body
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A valid CPR & First Aid Certification (required)
  • A clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening upon hire
  • Any previous course in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care to be an asset
  • Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
