Job Summary

Position is responsible for providing on-site professional assistance to Physicians administering BOTOX for spasticity in post-stroke patients at a designated LTC (Long Term Care). The nurse will collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members as required.

Specific Responsibilities

  1. Assure patient is prepared for injection.
  2. Provide on-site injection assistance to Physicians.
  3. Handle and reconstitute medications as per manufacturer product monograph and Health Canada guidelines.
  4. Follow cold chain requirements for medication as per INVIVA policies and procedures and the manufacturers' recommendation.
  5. Provide monitoring during and post medication administration.
  6. Follow all INVIVA policies and procedures.
  7. Document patient care services and managing records in accordance with INVIVA policies and procedures.
  8. Report any adverse events in accordance with manufacturers' specific requirements, Health Canada and INVIVA policies and procedures.
  9. Maintain knowledge of medical therapies as per manufacturer’s Product Monograph.
  10. Actively participate in training and mentoring of new clinic staff.
  11. Complete training as required by INVIVA on products and services, policies and procedures, technology, quality assurance and communications.
  12. Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards to ensure safe nursing practice.
  13. Ensure compliance with applicable LTC policies and protocols including safety protocols related to COVID-19, and with applicable employment health and safety obligations.

  1. Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  2. Establish a compassionate environment to support patients and co-workers.
  3. Maintain and protect patient confidentiality.
  4. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures and rules.
  5. Collaborate with management on proper operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements.
  6. Maintain medical supplies in accordance with patient volumes.
  7. Maintain up-to-date professional and technical knowledge.
  8. Maintain a cooperative relationship among healthcare teams by communicating and responding to requests.
  9. Contribute to team effort and corporate goals.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Typically requires 3+ years of related experience.

Key Competencies

  1. Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma.
  2. In good standing with provincial College.
  3. Experience in Geriatrics and Long-Term Care is an asset.
  4. CPR certification.
  5. Ability to work autonomously and proficiently, especially in emergency situations.
  6. Ability to work in a computerized environment (i.e. computer, MS Office, email, teams, and electronic patient records).
  7. Maintain yearly practice membership with provincial College.
  8. Ability to work at various locations depending on region.
  9. Ability to work evenings and weekends where applicable.
  10. Excellent assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
  11. Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues and customers.
  12. Ability to work in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment.
  13. Team player.
  14. Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.

In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$21.50 - $35.83
