Job summary

Covenant Care in Alberta seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to deliver day-to-day care to residents, guided by our mission to heal with compassion and uphold dignity at end of life. Reporting to the Resident Care Manager, the LPN collaborates with an inter-professional team to tailor the nursing process to evolving resident needs.

The role requires current CLPNA registration, approved LPN education, and CPR/First Aid certification; French is an asset and vaccination per policy is required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Practical Nurse Program required.
• Current registration with the CLPNA required.
• Current CPR / First Aid Certification / Equivalency required.
• Ability to speak French an asset
• Dementia education an asset
• Strong critical assessment skills
• Exhibits open and sincere approach to relating to people by demonstrating respect and compassion for everyone equally
• Recognizes and responds effectively to verbal and non-verbal cues with exceptional active listening skills
• Ability to work in a continuing care setting and handle difficult behaviors
• Ability to cope with frequent changes in daily routine, workload, shifts and resident needs; strong multi-tasking and time management skills
• Vaccination against required communicable diseases per Covenant Care OHS policy

Reporting to the Resident Care Manager (RCM), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for managing the day-to-day delivery of care to residents by motivating and empowering the team. The LPN works cohesively with members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure the nursing process (Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) is individualized and ongoing, such that changing needs of residents are addressed and met.

In accordance with Covenant Care’s mission, vision, and values, this position is responsible for ensuring that residents receive quality care and service according to Covenant Care policies and procedures. Provides support to residents, their family and visitors during the resident’s end of life journey that will enable choice, dignity, privacy, respect and individuality.
