Summary
The Licensed Automotive Technician at 1170 Heron Road Ottawa works in a fast-paced auto service environment, providing superior expertise to customers and the automotive team in automotive systems, diagnostics, and repairs. Communication skills are essential to succeed in this position. The Licensed Automotive Technician builds customer loyalty and retention through trust, workmanship, and reputation.
Responsibilities and Tasks
Customer Service
- Provides an excellent customer experience by ensuring an ongoing commitment to the needs of the customer and their vehicle.
- Explains procedures and repairs and any additional maintenance work required to customers to build trust and long-term retention.
- Liaises with Management / Service Advisors / Installers and Back Parts Window Associate to ensure smooth communication during repairs or maintenance work and that all commitments are met.
- Provides accurate estimates and written vehicle reports for all work performed.
- Ensures quality workmanship to meet or exceed industry standards.
- Performs tasks in compliance with industry flat rate time allowances.
- Reports unsafe vehicles to management and vehicle owners.
- Keeps vehicles clean and free of damage using seat covers and floor mats.
- Provides business cards to each customer.
- Retains used parts for customers upon request.
- Shares ideas and suggestions to improve the customer experience in the Automotive Service Centre.
- Deals professionally with challenging situations.
Operations
- Performs accurate vehicle inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Conducts daily bay inspections to ensure shop cleanliness.
- Supervises and verifies work done by apprentices, sharing knowledge and skills.
- Estimates service and repair costs and times for customers and service advisors.
- Completes and reviews repair orders and vehicle inspection reports with customers and/or service advisors.
- Maintains company and personal equipment and tools.
- Stays current with knowledge of domestic and imported vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Performs road tests according to store policy.
- Uses shop tools and equipment respectfully.
- Participates in meetings and training, and listens to feedback for improvement.
- Follows company, store, and Automotive Service Centre policies.
- Adheres to health and safety regulations, reporting hazards immediately.
- Maintains professional language and appearance when interacting with others.
- Performs additional tasks as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of current automobile technology.
- Valid mechanic’s license and driver’s license for the province.
- Ability to work effectively with computerized systems.
- Knowledge of CoStar is an asset.
- Experience in a similar role, especially in a Canadian Tire Auto Service Centre, is an asset.

- Lifting and carrying merchandise, varying in weight from light to heavy.

- Climbing ladders while carrying items.
- Walking, carrying, pushing, and pulling as needed.
