We have a Permanent Part-time (0.869 FTE) Library Technician I position available at Brookwood School in Spruce Grove. The successful candidate will be responsible for the circulation, ordering, and cataloging of materials, facilitating student use of library resources, and supervising students as needed.

The role involves managing literature, including circulation, ordering, and maintaining collections. Knowledge of the Alberta Education Learning Commons Policy and Guidelines, along with budget development and oversight, is essential. The candidate should also foster a positive, engaging environment that inspires students.

Function and Purpose of Position

A Library Technician I maintains the daily operations of the library, working with staff and students to support diverse learning needs in a welcoming atmosphere. Collaboration and independence are key to creating a learning commons for all.

Library Technicians may:

  • Work under the direction of the Principal or designate
  • Work independently and as part of a team
  • Enjoy working with students and staff

Learning Commons Resources and Instructional Support

  • Manage literature, circulation, and collections
  • Understand Alberta Education policies
  • Create a positive environment that excites students
  • Maintain a budget for the Learning Commons
  • Support an inclusive, forward-thinking literacy environment
  • Network beyond the school setting
  • Familiarity with Maker Space and innovative library practices
  • Support instruction, research, literacy, and learning in digital and print environments
  • Classify and catalog new materials

Behavior

Maintain a safe, secure environment using de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.

Student Assistance and Personal Care

Support and supervise students within the school setting.

Communication and Reporting

  • Build relationships with students and staff
  • Promote library services through campaigns and events
  • Assist students with resources and space

Student Personal Development

  • Provide advice, assistance, and guidance to develop student skills and knowledge
  • Mentor and coach students in using library resources

Other Duties

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma required
  • Information and Library Technology Diploma or equivalent is an asset
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience preferred
  • Experience with Destiny, Discovery Education, Google Apps, and hardware is an asset

This position is covered by the CUPE Collective Agreement. The hours are approximately 30.4 hours/week (Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:05 PM). The pay rate ranges from $22.92 to $25.73 per hour.
