We are seeking a creative, dynamic, and committed professional to join our team:

SCHOOL LIBRARY TECHNICIAN

Location: Osgoode Public School

Position Status: 0.50 Regular, Part-time

Work Year: 10 months per year

Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week, flexible schedule

Affiliation: OSSTF District 25 - Educational Support Professionals (ESP)

Salary Rate: $26.22 to $32.67 per hour (Level 5)

Effective: August 25, 2025

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal or designate, the Library Technician will provide technical and public services, and perform duties related to library operations such as organizing, maintaining, selecting, ordering, circulating print and non-print materials, providing reference services, researching and preparing support materials for units of study, and performing public relations, supervisory, and clerical activities.

Qualifications
  • Diploma in Library and Information Technician, with 1 to 2 years of library experience.
  • Understanding of cataloguing and classification systems.
  • Research skills required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (word processing, spreadsheets, databases), internet searches, and research tools.
  • Experience operating and maintaining library software.
  • Strong organizational skills to schedule classes/small groups and prioritize tasks and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including writing.
  • Ability to use tact, judgment, and diplomacy when dealing with staff, students, parents/volunteers.
  • Knowledge of both English and French is an asset.
Application Process

Applications will be considered in accordance with the ESP Collective Agreement in the following order:

  • Internal applications from regular full-time and part-time ESP employees are given first consideration.
  • Applications from term and casual ESP employees are considered second.
  • External candidates, including Board employees outside the bargaining unit, will be considered only after internal and ESP applications are exhausted.

Casual and term employees must apply to the external posting. Vacancies are posted as internal and external.

In accordance with the collective agreement, newly hired regular employees cannot accept another position within six months.

Evaluation & Assessment

Candidate evaluation will focus on organizational and management skills, communication, interpersonal skills, and knowledge/practice related to the duties and qualifications outlined above.
