Qualifications

As a Library Security Guard, physical ability is essential as you will be moving around your entire shift, patrolling environments, and safeguarding people around you in a Library setting.

Responsibilities for Library Security Guard
  • Facilitate access to restricted areas for authorized persons
  • React quickly to threats or incidents
  • Check the proper functioning of alarms and cameras
  • Document incidents and actions taken
  • Respond to alarms and conduct on-site checks
  • Collaborate with law enforcement during serious incidents
  • Conduct excessive foot patrols (interior/exterior) of sensitive areas to spot any suspicious activity
  • Respond to tenant requests
  • Emergency Response
  • Monitor closed circuit cameras
  • Remove unauthorized individuals
  • React quickly and professionally during emergencies or stressful situations
  • Utilize conflict de-escalation and trauma-informed safety approaches, with a focus on anti-racism and cultural awareness
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English for clear and calm interactions
  • Provide a visible security presence on all floors of the Library and Skywalk during operational hours
  • Control access to the library entrance, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors
  • Offer site information and directions to the public, maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor
  • Collaborate effectively with library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to create a safe and welcoming environment
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors, elevators, and rooms, and activating/deactivating alarm systems
  • Maintain detailed logs of unusual occurrences
Qualifications for Library Security Guard
  • Be authorized to work in Canada
  • Hold a valid Manitoba security license
  • First aid certification an asset
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional appearance
  • Ability to stand and walk for the entire shift
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • First Aid training (an asset)
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform duties
  • Tactical experience (asset)
  • Good with technology
