Physical ability is essential, as you will be moving around during your shift, patrolling, and safeguarding people in a library environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate access to restricted areas and control entry points, including operating metal detection gates and welcoming visitors.
  • React promptly to threats, incidents, and emergencies, maintaining professionalism during stressful situations.
  • Monitor alarms and CCTV, responding to alarms with on-site checks.
  • Conduct foot patrols of interior and exterior areas to detect suspicious activity and maintain a visible security presence.
  • Remove unauthorized individuals using conflict de-escalation techniques, with an emphasis on anti-racism and cultural awareness.
  • Assist tenants and visitors with site information and directions in a friendly manner.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, library staff, Community Safety Hosts, and Crisis Workers to ensure safety.
  • Maintain clear communication, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures, including locking/unlocking doors and activating/deactivating alarms.
  • Document incidents and maintain logs for accountability.
Qualifications:
  • Authorized to work in Canada
  • Valid Manitoba security license
  • First aid certification is an asset
  • Positive attitude and professional appearance
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift
  • Good communication skills
  • Physically and mentally fit for the duties
  • Tactical experience is an asset
  • Technologically proficient
