Job description

Library Director, Holmes Public Library (Halifax)

The Town of Halifax seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Library Director to perform highly responsible administrative and supervisory functions in the professional management, planning, direction, administration, and evaluation of all Library functions and services. The goal is to effectively meet the growing diversity of cultural, recreational, informational, and educational library needs of the community.

The Library Director must exercise independent judgment and initiative in planning, administering, and providing Library services, including supervising personnel. Since certain Library records are not public record, the Director ensures proper maintenance of confidential information. Errors could lead to improper disclosure, legal and financial repercussions, or adverse public relations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required; Master’s in Library and Information Science preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in finance, budgeting, facilities management, library automation, and personnel administration.
  • At least 3 years in an administrative and/or supervisory capacity, preferably in a public library environment.
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required skills and abilities.
  • Professional Certificate of Librarianship issued by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
