Job description

This is a part-time, 27 hour per week position working on campus position in the afternoon, early evening time frame. The starting salary range is $17.22 - $19.74 per hour.

SCOPE OF WORK: As part of the MCC Library team, provides friendly, inclusive customer service to a diverse community of learners. Maintains library circulation services, manages, and performs duties relating to library and academic resource functions and services to students, faculty, staff, administration, and the public at Manchester Community College. This position reports to the MCC Director of Library Services.

Accountabilities

  • Provides friendly, validating, inclusive customer service.
  • Responsible for closing the Learning Commons.
  • Assists in all areas of Library Learning Commons operations as needed.
  • Assists students, faculty, and visitors with basic reference and resource questions and oversees the library service desk.
  • Provides technical assistance with computers and printers, Easy Login, MCC Library website, and refers users to other college offices as needed.
  • Assists with support of testing and proctoring as needed.
  • Tracks gate count, transactions, tests, and other activities in the library.
  • Uses library system to circulate books and materials to the College community and the public as needed; assists in removal of materials from collection as needed.
  • Prepares materials for interlibrary loan; processes materials and assists with inventory as needed.
  • Participates in the oversight of library student assistants.
  • Performs shelf maintenance for the library’s physical collections, including shelving, inventorying, straightening, and displaying of materials.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent with courses in typing.

Experience: Two (2) years of clerical experience including computer knowledge, preferably in connection with library operations.

License/Certification: None required.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of correct English usage, punctuation, spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Working knowledge of modern library techniques, procedures and working tools used in accessioning, cataloging, circulating, and maintaining library materials. Skills in the performance of clerical and manipulative tasks. Ability to type and maintain a filing system and to adjust to a considerable amount of routine work. Ability to letter legibly and skillfully. Ability to apply library methods and principles in acquiring, circulation and providing limited patron services. Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other library personnel and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
