About the Library
Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, the University Library is an integral part of the MRU experience. The services, facilities, programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections, and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms, and a range of visualization, simulation, and immersive spaces.

About The Role
Library Aides provide welcoming assistance to Library users on the Service Desk during the Fall and Winter terms including: circulation of materials, assistance with technology and printing , responding to basic directional and informational questions and referrals to information and other campus resources. Library Aides work in the evenings and weekends primarily, providing front-facing user services under the oversight of full-time staff. Students occasionally assist with small projects such as re-labelling of materials, pulling materials, and re-charging technology. This position requires excellent communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Basic circulation: check-out, check-in, refer account and financial matters to full-time or supervisory staff
- Basic user services: answering directional, technical, basic informational questions and referrals to other information, campus services, resources
- Assistance with locating and pulling print items for Holds and InterLibrary Loans (ILL)
- Print Room and Group Room restocking (markers, paper refills, etc.)
- Technology charging and light maintenance (erasing SD cards and USB sticks, plugging in laptop cart, wiping VR headsets)
- Retrieval and re-stocking of print materials (empty book bins, re-stock BookBoxes, contactless pickup, shelving and tidying)
- Projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Demonstrated public/customer service skills;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- First-hand experience and understanding of student academic research and information needs, citation, and campus resources at MRU
- Proficiency in troubleshooting computer issues / technology / MRU applications (experience with technologies such as VR and 3D printing is an asset);
- Ability to problem solve and work under pressure;
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Previous library work experience is an asset but not required.
MRU students are encouraged to apply. Shifts will be largely evenings and weekends. Library Aides are expected to work at least one weeknight shift and one weekend shift each week, including shifts until 9 pm. Library hours can be viewed here.
