Job Purpose

A school librarian manages the school library to support student learning and academic achievement. They curate and maintain a collection of books, digital resources, and learning tools that align with the curriculum. School librarians assist students and staff in locating and using information effectively, promote reading and literacy, and teach research and digital literacy skills. They collaborate with teachers, integrate technology into instruction, and create an engaging, inclusive environment that fosters a love of reading and lifelong learning.

Education, Experience And Requirements

• Strong knowledge of children’s and young adult literature.
• Familiarity with educational technology and digital learning tools.
• Excellent research, information literacy, and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate with teachers and support curriculum development.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and instructional skills.
• Experience in library management software and digital catalog systems (e.g., Follett Destiny).
• Experience with Microsoft and Google operating systems and programs (e.g., Google Suite, Gmail and the Internet).
• Demonstrates expertise in budgeting and expenditure controls.
• Excellent knowledge of library practices and skills including circulation procedures, shelving and maintaining materials.
• Demonstrates responsibility, reliability, and trustworthiness.
• Ability to lift or push 40 pounds.
• Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Education and/ or Library Technician’s diploma preferred.
• Additional coursework in children’s or young adult literature, information technology, or education is beneficial.
• Previous working experience as a Librarian or Librarian Technician for a minimum of 3 years.
• Ceremonial and cultural knowledge is an asset.
• Understanding and speaking nehiyawewin is an asset.

Working Conditions

Will be required to work at either of the Enoch Cree Nation Kitaskinaw Education Authority Buildings for an 8-hour shift in accordance with the ECN Human Resource Policy & Procedure Manual – Section C. May be required to work after hours and during weekends.
