Job description

Job Summary

UFV seeks an innovative, dynamic, and service-oriented professional for the position of Student Engagement Librarian (“SE Librarian”). The role involves developing, coordinating, and supporting engagement and outreach initiatives for students, including non-traditional students and underserved populations, to meet their unique needs and interests.

The librarian will collaborate with colleagues, campus departments, and community partners to implement outreach efforts, programming, and inclusive initiatives that promote student-centered library services, contributing to student success and retention.

Under the supervision of the University Librarian, responsibilities include participating in activities such as information literacy instruction, research help consultations, decolonization initiatives, institutional committee meetings, collaborative projects, orientation sessions, and the UFV Library Student Engagement Working Group (SEWG). Additional projects may include open education, digital humanities, archives, and professional development activities.

The Librarian Will

1. Develop, deliver, and assess effective library communications and outreach initiatives to increase student awareness of resources, facilities, services, and events, enhancing the student experience.
2. Manage the Student Engagement Working Group, including scheduling meetings and liaising with library and student groups.
3. Promote awareness of the library’s role in facilitating student engagement, success, and learning through collaboration with campus departments.
4. Work with librarians to ensure a cohesive outreach approach leveraging team expertise.
5. Advance information and digital literacies as core competencies.
6. Design and deliver research help services and information literacy instruction, integrating assessment measures.
7. Support the library’s marketing and promotional needs as part of the UFV Library Marketing Committee.
8. Act as liaison librarian for assigned subject areas, organizing events and programs to promote library resources and services to incoming and transitioning students.
9. Engage with community partners to share expertise and participate in projects.

Qualifications

1. ALA-Accredited Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies or equivalent; three years of academic library experience preferred.
2. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
3. Strong information technology and digital literacy skills.
4. Interpersonal skills and ability to work creatively in a team.
5. High-level service commitment, flexibility, and willingness to assume various assignments.
6. Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups, and knowledge of equity and inclusion issues.
7. Ability to develop cooperative relationships and contribute positively to workplace culture.
8. Respectful communication, active listening, and openness to feedback.
9. Creative, innovative, and willing to experiment with new approaches.
