The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education (TCRCE) encompasses the three (3) Counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby, serving approximately 6100 students in twenty-two (22) schools, including 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Title: Library Technician

Responsible to: Principal of the School

Hours: Monday to Friday - 6 hours per day

Qualifications, Experience & Abilities:

  • Library and Information Diploma or equivalent
  • Be of African Descent
  • Training and/or experience in record keeping and filing
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, Record-Keeping, Internet
  • Familiar with Insignia computer software
  • Experience working in an educational setting
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to communicate and work alongside diverse cultural and racial backgrounds
  • Ability to value the voice and contribution of others and remain open to feedback
  • Completion of WHMIS and First Aid or willingness to obtain upon hire

Responsibilities:

Provide knowledgeable, courteous library services such as:

  • Providing reference services to staff and students under the supervision of the classroom teacher
  • Maintaining a flexible library schedule for student and teacher use
  • Informing the principal of collection shortcomings as identified by users
  • Ordering new materials or supplies as approved by the Principal
  • Ensuring library users comply with Board Policy regarding Internet use

Ensuring library resources and records are well maintained, organized, and accessible, including:

  • Operating circulation systems, including borrowing records, shelving, overdue notices
  • Maintaining an inventory of library materials
  • Maintaining and repairing the collection
  • Organizing and maintaining files, periodicals, and audiovisual materials
  • Ordering supplies with Principal approval
  • Removing outdated materials
  • Overseeing the use and maintenance of library computers and hardware/software

Promoting library use as a learning space, such as:

  • Creating displays for new acquisitions or items of interest
  • Working with teachers on book fairs and activities
  • Scheduling class visits
  • Presenting new acquisitions and promoting programs
  • Facilitating inter-library loans
  • Participating in professional development

Other related duties as assigned by the Principal.

Required: Attach copies of your Certification, Diploma, or Transcripts from Post-Secondary Education.

First consideration will be given to qualified SEIU - Local 2 Members, second to applicants of African Nova Scotian descent.

The position title of Librarian, Library Technician, or Library Clerk will be determined upon review of qualifications and experience.
