Reporting to the Team Lead, the Medical Librarian is responsible for the delivery of dynamic information and research services that support Alberta’s healthcare providers in evidence-informed decision making. With Library Services, you will collaborate with a team of library professionals in providing a world-class information service. You will have opportunities to lead projects and contribute to the planning and advancement of the library through participation in service-oriented workgroups. You’ll be challenged daily by unique research support requests and will build skills in others through evidence literacy instruction. As part of liaison activities, you will foster connections with clinicians to promote lifelong learning and high-quality evidence use. Description:
The Medical Librarian performs complex literature searches and provides guidance on effective evidence use. They are experts in health sciences literature searching, skilled at locating internal resources, and proficient in crafting complex search strategies for databases, repositories, and grey literature. They assist clients in refining research questions through reference interviews and deliver evidence and information literacy training, including virtual sessions. They build relationships with healthcare staff to promote library services and the importance of quality evidence in healthcare decision-making, research, and patient care. The librarian may lead workgroups, mentor staff, and facilitate knowledge-sharing events. They contribute to the planning and operation of Library Services. This role is based at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, with a hybrid work arrangement allowing up to three days remote work per week.
Required Qualifications:
Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS) or equivalent from an ALA-accredited institution. At least two years of professional experience in a health sciences library and expert searching skills. Proficiency in library IT and applications. Demonstrated advanced health sciences literature searching techniques and resource knowledge.
Additional Required Qualifications:
An undergraduate degree in health or life sciences is advantageous. Memberships in CHLA, AAHL, or MLA are beneficial. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively. Experience with remote work and online communication tools. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to adhere to policies and maintain confidentiality. Effective time management and workflow documentation skills.
