Job description

Aplin is seeking a dedicated and experienced Legislative Services Manager to oversee legislative, regulatory, and governance functions for our client located in Campbell River. This role requires a strong understanding of legislative processes, policy development, and compliance management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage direct reporting staff with an emphasis on the execution of plans and delivery of legislative services.
  • Manage the administration and coordination of legislative services, including updating, drafting, reviewing, and implementing City-wide corporate Administrative and Council policies and bylaws.
  • Assume a leadership role in implementing key aspects of Council’s strategic plan with respect to management and governance.
  • Provide expert advice and support to senior leadership and council/board members on legislative matters.
  • Act as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Head ensuring statutory responsibilities regarding public access to records and the protection of privacy are met.
  • Ensure the safekeeping and preservation of all corporate records that meet applicable legislation and the needs of all City operations.
  • Will be appointed the City’s Deputy Corporate Officer, and will serve as the Chief Elections Officer.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Law, Political Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in legislative services, municipal governance, or policy development. As well, Minimum 3 years in a Supervisor position.
  • Strong knowledge of legislative frameworks, municipal bylaws, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience managing teams and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in records management systems and governance software.
  • Ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory documents.
