Legislative District Security Officer - GEN

Salary Range : $33.367-$41.812 Hourly

Grade : SGEU.09.

The Opportunity

The Legislative District Security Officer will join a team of seven armed officers responsible for the security of the Legislative District. Under supervision, you will maintain tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality while working with your team and others to ensure the safety of all who work and visit the Legislative building and area. The successful candidate will use interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills to assist with information gathering, interviews, investigations, and inspections in complex situations.

Responsibilities
  • Implementing and enforcing security policy and procedures
  • Conducting and reviewing security threat / risk assessments and determining appropriate security provisions in line with standards
  • Completing security investigations of sensitive issues involving criminal offences and security of Elected Officials, Executive Council, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and staff
  • Liaising with provincial, federal, and international protocol officers to provide security provisions for diplomatic and VIP visits to the Legislature
  • Coordinating security protocol with RCMP, CSIS, CBSA, Sergeant-at-Arms, Community Safety Officers, Central Services, Municipal Police Services, and the Provincial Protective Services branch
  • Ensuring informed compliance of demonstrated groups with security requirements, legislation, and policies
  • Ensuring firearms and security intervention equipment are maintained and meet safety standards
  • Completing research, investigations, and developing reports and other documentation
  • Working with other contractual security staff/resources to provide supplementary security functions
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Practical experience in public policing and/or law enforcement preferred
  • Experience in high-performing protective and secure unit settings
  • Accountable, approachable, and adaptable in daily duties
  • Background in law enforcement or policing; typically a bachelor’s degree or college diploma in police science, criminal justice, public administration, or related field
  • Knowledge of law enforcement, legislation (Canada Criminal Code), and public safety policy
  • Understanding of governance structures and legal/court processes
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including media and community relations
  • Experience with surveillance, protective services, use of force, and equipment (sidearms, batons, conducted energy weapons, OC spray)
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments, criminal investigations, intelligence gathering, negotiations, and conflict management

Other requirements include progressively responsible law enforcement experience; flexibility to work on-call, evenings, and weekends; and inspections under varied conditions. A Class 5 Driver's License is required. Officers are appointed as Special Constables under the Police Act 1990 and must pass RCMP security screening and be trained to carry a sidearm and operate intervention equipment.

Conditions of Employment
  • Valid First Aid / CPR certificate
  • Current and valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • Ability to obtain Special Constable status in Saskatchewan
  • Ability and authorization to carry a firearm
  • Completion of Provincial Firearms Qualification Standard, use of force training, OC spray, and expandable baton training
  • Physical testing demonstrating overall health and fitness
  • Psychological testing, criminal record check, and background checks for heightened security clearance
