Job description

Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.

Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

As a Legal, Summer Student with Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a dynamic and fast-paced group of Legal experts. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the energy sector and develop your legal skills in a professional setting.

This position is based in our Calgary Head Office and will report to the Director, Commercial Law.

Duration: May 5, 2025 to August 29, 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, agreements, and other legal documents under supervision.
  • Conduct legal research on various topics related to energy law and regulatory compliance.
  • Support the Legal Department in preparing for meetings, hearings, and negotiations.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings, providing legal insights and recommendations.
  • Help maintain and organize legal files and documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Legal Department.
  • Support the Legal Department in relation to a variety of commercial litigations and regulatory matters.

Qualifications and Professional Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (J.D.) program at an accredited law school.
  • Strong academic record and demonstrated interest in energy law.
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Other Requirements and Information:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited post-secondary institution, returning to full-time studies in the Fall term.

The expected pay range for this position is $24.61 to $33.48 CAD per hour.
